Night Clubs, Concerts and... Animal Control?
I was talking with a friend at work about an upcoming concert at a venue in San Francisco. "Have you ever been to The Pound before?" I asked. "I think it's in Potrero Hill.""No, Blythe," my co-worker mock-lectured me in that tone of voice that you'd reserve for people who are wrong about everything. "You of all people should know that it's called "San Francisco Animal Care and Control" and it's right next to the SFSPCA between the Mission and Potrero."
I explained with equally exaggerated patience that I did know where animal control was, but I'd meant the concert venue called The Pound where my friend's band was playing in two weeks, not the animal welfare organization seen on Animal Cops!
Humorous misunderstandings occur more frequently than we'd like them to, of course, but this one was so unique to the world of animal welfare and well-meaning shelter co-workers that it charmed me completely and left me chuckling all day!
